A wonderful 19th-century English papier-mâché tray, featuring a charming hand-painted portrait of a dog at its center. The oval form is beautifully embellished with intricate giltwork borders and mother-of-pearl insets, creating a lovely contrast between the warm golden details and the iridescent shimmer of the inlay. A delightful example of the decorative artistry of the period, this tray would make a special addition to a collection of antique papier-mâché wares or an eye-catching accent displayed atop a cabinet, easel or tabletop.
Please note that this piece has condition issues, including a missing section along the lower edge, additional chips, and a crack. These imperfections are reflected in its presentation as a decorative antique, best suited for display and appreciated for its age, craftsmanship, and charming canine portrait.
