A wonderfully ornate antique humidor by Wilcox Silver Plate Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, crafted in quadruple-plated silver. The piece is an exceptional example of the elaborate silver-plated wares produced by Wilcox during the Victorian era, combining practical function with highly decorative design.

The lid is crowned by two sculptural hounds, while the sides of the humidor are richly embossed with a charming hunting scene. Pheasants, deer, rabbits, and leafy vegetation cover the silver-plated surfaces, creating an intricate tableau that is as decorative as it is wonderfully evocative of the period.

An engraved name appears on the top of the lid, though it has worn with age and is no longer legible. The inside of the lid bears the date “December 13, 1892,” adding an especially wonderful piece of provenance and history to the object.

The interior is thoughtfully divided into two larger compartments, with a narrower central compartment featuring its own lid and ventilation. This unusual configuration speaks to the humidor's original purpose while adding to its appeal as a fascinating piece of Victorian craftsmanship.

A striking and highly collectible object, this humidor would be beautiful displayed in a library, study, bar, or among a collection of antique silver and tobacco accessories. Its elaborate hunting motifs, sculptural hounds, and documented 1892 date make it a particularly special piece of American silver-plated history.
